Abstract

In The Lost Supper: Searching for the Future of Food in the Flavors of the Past, Taras Grescoe explores how forgotten and nearly extinct foods may hold the key to a more sustainable future. Through a series of immersive essays, he travels across different regions—from Mexico and Italy to Canada and beyond—investigating the cultural and ecological significance of lost flavours. While Grescoe offers a hopeful perspective on food diversity, the book lacks a unifying narrative, leaving the reader yearning for a broader global scope. Despite this, The Lost Supper serves as an engaging and sensory-rich introduction to the intersections of history, ecology, and gastronomy.
