Diners, Dudes and Diets by Emily Contois offers a unique opportunity for readers to deepen their understanding of the gendered nature of food in the historical context of the United States. In her book, Contois illustrates how the industry contributes to the construction of gender binaries to increase the sale of its products. The male character, that of the "dude", is intended to appeal to 21st-century male consumers. This study of media representations of food questions the patriarchal system that harms us to varying degrees.
